We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. I was extremely proud of the learning that took place last week as we continue to educate ourselves through Truth and Reconciliation. Students engaged in many learning tasks within their classrooms that focused on the land acknowledgement, understanding residential schools through story and student presentations, listening to Indigenous leaders share experiences and teachings around treaties and the fall equinox. Our week culminated with an assembly hosted by the grade 4 team of students, staff, and Ms. Bohan, honouring those impacted by residential schools. It was a privilege to wear orange on Orange Shirt Day, it encouraged reflection and understanding through education, and our community was strengthened.

Copperfield student leadership and engagement continues this week as we look to learn more about Terry Fox and his goal to unite Canada in order to support cancer research. Our grade 2 students will be sharing announcements throughout the week and will be hosting an assembly at 8:45am on Friday October 6, 2023. As a school community, we will be running to support the Marathon of Hope and working to learn more about perseverance and goal setting. Terry Fox asked all Canadians to contribute one dollar to support Cancer Research, and Copperfield school has set a goal of raising $1200.00 to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Copperfield staff have added extra incentive by agreeing to get a pie in the face if we reach certain goals along the way to $1200.00.

Copperfield has heart!

Sincerely,
