Update

It was a busy week at Copperfield School. The students learned about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The week was also filled with spooky creative writing activities, art projects and game preparation for buddy classes. We enjoyed their creativity as they dressed up for Halloween on Thursday afternoon.

Next week, we look forward to another busy week. Lest We Forget! On Thursday, November 7, our Grade 5 students will be hosting Copperfield School’s Remembrance Day Assembly in the Gym at 10:30am. By remembering, we pay tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces who served to defend our values and freedoms. We will take time to pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict, and peace. Announcements highlighting information about veterans and their sacrifices, the significance of the poppy, and ways in which Canadians can support Veterans will be shared with our students leading up to our assembly. Students will learn about the significance of Remembrance Day and will demonstrate their learning through art, song, poetry, and writing. As part of this very sombre and important assembly, students who participate in a Service Club (Cadets, Cubs, Scouts, Girl Guides, Sparks) are invited to wear their uniform on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Thank you in advance for donating to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign.

We wish you a wonderful Fall Break starting on November 8.

Warm regards,

Colette Pedde

Principal, Copperfield School

POPPY CAMPAIGN

Every year, The Royal Canadian Legion and their many volunteers conduct the Poppy Campaign to raise funds in support of Veterans and their families. As part of our Copperfield School Remembrance Day Assembly each student will be provided a poppy to wear. Poppies are distributed freely, but your generous donations are invaluable. To donate you can send money with your child on November 8 and the donations will be collected prior to the assembly by our Grade 5’s.

VETERANS FOOD DRIVE

The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary is a service provided by CALGARY VETERANS SERVICES SOCIETY, founded in August 2018, to serve food security and other resource needs of veterans from Calgary and surrounding area. The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary supports veterans who served in all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces, Reserves and first responders.

Copperfield School will be collecting food donations starting on October 30 through until November 7, 2024. If you can donate food items, it would be appreciated. Items that are urgently needed are canned meats and chili/stew, ground coffee, flour, cereal, Kleenex, pudding cups, canned mushrooms, juice boxes, granola bars, cookies, rice, pancake mix, hamburger helper, plastic wrap, toilet paper, mac and cheese, and spices. Thank you for your support.

LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found is overflowing. Is your student missing an item, have them check the lost and found. Remember to label all items as we do check weekly for names and return those labelled. All remaining lost and found will be donated on November 29 at noon.

Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Fall/Winter Series 2024/2025

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in a pre-recorded and live online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and Recovery Alberta and will explore topics such as Peer Pressure, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens, and navigating Parent-Teen relationships.

Acting on feedback from participants who joined us during our live online sessions over the past two years, moving forward we invite all guardians and parents to listen to the pre-recorded or live sessions at their convenience.
