Update
It was another great week of learning at Copperfield School. It was wonderful to meet with families during our Parent/Teacher Conferences. We were excited to welcome families back into our school and to share all the wonderful things that have been happening in September. Thank you to everyone who visited the Book Fair during conferences. The books purchased helped to raise $2557.34 in new books for our Learning Commons.
This week we have focused our learning on Truth and Reconciliation. Students learned about the significance of the Land Acknowledgment, and we shared the importance of connecting to the natural spaces around us during an assembly on Monday. The classes also examined Indigenous artists and authors to learn about Indigenous ways of knowing and doing through various art forms. The students created beautiful feather artwork that you’ll find in our Copper Gallery. We also read and discussed Nicola Campbell’s Shin-chi's Canoe with all the classes.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our amazing School Council for their incredible support! We had our first School Council meeting on Wednesday, and they voted to purchase more musical instruments and technology, as well as a Lacrosse and artist residency for our students this school year! We are so grateful for this incredible support! We also appreciate the School Council for organizing the Food Trucks and the picnic at our Parent Teacher Conferences. We appreciate this wonderful Copperfield School Community. Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Colette Pedde
Principal, Copperfield School
