Update

It has been another great week of learning at Copperfield School. We would like to thank all the parents who have volunteered for positions on our School Council and the Fundraising Association, which both play a vital role in supporting the success at our school.

Halloween is around the corner. Students are invited to dress-up in their Halloween costume during the afternoon of Thursday, October 31, except for morning Kindergarten who will dress-up during their morning class time. Students will put on their costume after they return indoors from their lunch recess break. If you are picking your student up for lunch to support them in getting their costume on, please sign your child out at the office. Thursday continues to be a regular learning day with many school activities happening as usual, please ensure that students are still able to participate in school activities such as recess and gym while wearing their costume. We ask that all costume weapons be left at home on this day and saved for the night of Halloween. Students are allowed to wear face paint all day if this is part of their Halloween costume, as we understand it can be difficult for families to get away during the lunch hour. Students who have a mask as part of their costume, will be asked to wear it on top of their head for school activities in the classroom and moving around the school for safety reasons. Classrooms may have some Halloween activities planned in the afternoon, and students may be invited to bring a personalized snack as part of this celebration. Teachers will communicate their plans with families via their weekly Friday message. Please don’t send whole class treats to hand out as we have many students with dietary restrictions, allergies and sanitization expectations makes this a challenging practice.

The first snowfall of the year has allowed us to highlight the changes in nature that students might see as we transition to winter. We discussed the opportunity snow provides to build and create during recess, and to remind everyone that snow is to stay on the ground and not to be thrown. Please label all clothing items, as many students have similar looking boots, mitts, toques, and coats.

Warm regards,

Colette Pedde

Principal, Copperfield School

VETERANS FOOD DRIVE

The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary is a service provided by CALGARY VETERANS SERVICES SOCIETY, founded in August 2018, to serve food security and other resource needs of veterans from Calgary and surrounding area. The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary supports veterans who served in all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces, Reserves and first responders.

Copperfield School will be collecting food donations starting on October 30 through until November 7, 2024. If you can donate food items, it would be appreciated. Items that are urgently needed are canned meats and chili/stew, ground coffee, flour, cereal, Kleenex, pudding cups, canned mushrooms, juice boxes, granola bars, cookies, rice, pancake mix, hamburger helper, plastic wrap, toilet paper, mac and cheese, and spices. Thank you for your support.

DEMOGRAPHIC FORMS are now overdue

Please log onto your MyCBE account and click on Online Forms which will bring you to the demographic and consent forms. If you do not see any forms, you have completed all for the year. If you do still have outstanding forms, please complete, and submit. It is important to recognize these forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Our friends at AMA Alberta offer this advice for those venturing out on Halloween to Trick or Treat!

  • See and Be Seen
  • When crossing a road, be predictable and smart;
  • Use intersections and designated crosswalks when possible and always look all ways to make sure vehicles have stopped completely before crossing;
  • Travel in groups as there is safety in numbers;
  • When the sun goes down, be visible. Wear light-coloured and reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow-stick.
  • Be a Safe Pedestrian
  • Use Point, Pause, Proceed when crossing at crosswalks or crossing corner to corner;
  • Stay on the sidewalk and walking path.
  • Driver Diligence
  • Avoid in-vehicle distractions such as cell phones;
  • Watch for excited children dashing about;
  • Follow the rules of the road: reduce speeds and stop at crosswalks.

LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found is overflowing. Is your student missing an item, have them check the lost and found. Remember to label all items as we do check weekly for names and return those labelled. All remaining lost and found will be donated on November 29 at noon.
