Message from Admin
Thank you to all our Copperfield families and students for amazing start to the new school year. It was wonderful to reconnect with everyone and to welcome new students into our building and classrooms. On Thursday, we hosted a short assembly to introduce the staff and sing our school song together as a school community.
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. Students will continue to become familiar with school routines and classmates, with a focus on building collaborative communities within their classrooms and our outdoor spaces. Each Friday, you will receive a Weekly Update from your child’s teacher and the office with the information for the week ahead. If you have any questions, please email your child’s teacher. Their links are on the Copperfield School webpage here: Home - Copperfield School (cbe.ab.ca).
Mr. Patry and I will be outside in the mornings and after school each day, and we look forward to connecting with families throughout the year. We wish you a wonderful long weekend!
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Colette Pedde and Jon Patry
Principal and Assistant Principal, Copperfield School
Before School Supervision
This year, outside supervision is provided between 7:47 a.m. and 7:57 a.m. You are welcome to drop off your child(ren) during this time. Parents are encouraged to say goodbye and leave promptly to help free up parking spaces for others. We hope that this “drop-off” system will help reduce traffic congestion and make the morning arrival smoother and safer for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Traffic Safety Guidelines for Parents
We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring the safety of all children in our community. Please refrain from making U-turns in the middle of the street and avoid jaywalking. For everyone’s safety, we strongly encourage the use of designated crosswalks when crossing the street. Your attention to these important safety measures helps protect our children and sets a positive example for them. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Bus Students
A reminder to parents to please let the office know if your child will not be riding the bus on any given day. The school and the bus driver take attendance daily.

Bike, Scooters and Skateboards on CBE Property
It is very exciting to see the number of students riding their scooters and bikes to school. It is important for students to bring a lock and use the designated racks to secure their items. For everyone’s safety students are reminded to walk their bike, scooter and/or skateboard while on school sidewalks and grounds before and after school.
City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw
We would like to remind our community that according to the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, pets are not allowed on school grounds. We understand that all members of our community are responsible pet owners and consider their furry friends to be safe members of the family. However, it is in the best interest of all that we adhere to the above bylaw for the safety of the pet, the owner themselves, and most importantly our students. Interested students can quickly create unsafe situation for the pet and pets can create emotions of fear for others. The restricted area for pets includes the entire playing field, the grassed areas on school property and all sidewalks that lead to school entrances according to the bylaw. We appreciate your consideration and understanding.
Copperfield School (Parent) Council Update:
Have you always wondered what goes on inside Copperfield School after the morning bell rings? Do you ever wonder how the students at Copperfield School get to experience such amazing activities like Alien In-Line Skating, working with an artist in residence, have Indigenous learning opportunities like how a tipi is raised, learning and growing with the newest Phys. Ed equipment, musical instruments or most up to date technology? A lot of the funds for these kinds of activities and experiences come from Parent Council. Without funds raised from our Casinos and our fun lunches and snacks, children's experiences would be vastly different.
Copperfield School has an amazingly active and hard-working parent council. We are very involved in the school and provide funding for experiences and opportunities that students would not otherwise get to have.
We are always looking for people to join us! Our AGM is coming up in October 2025! You have the opportunity to be in the school, get to know the students and staff, be a part of the decision-making for how Council funds are spent and volunteer with a fantastic group of parents to help raise money to support many areas of Copperfield School. Whether it’s for music, literacy, math, or field trips, we ensure that the money we raise is spread throughout the school and there’s always something that every student can benefit from.
Have you seen that gigantic black piece of asphalt at the back of the school? Thanks to our outstanding principal’s support, Copperfield School’s Parent Council was able to fund a brand new basketball court!!! Line painting for the court and installation of nets will be happening over the next month or so. Not only will this serve as a great outdoor addition to our school, it will also help Mr. Parson’s planning when it's time to teach basketball!!
These are only some of the ways that Parent Council helps within our school. If you’re interested in joining us or just want to come to a meeting and see what is council is all about, come out to our AGM in October. We would
LOVE to see some new faces!
The next school council meeting will be in person on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 6:30pm. Babysitting will not be provided.
