Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis. Indigenous History Month (June) and National Indigenous Peoples Day are opportunities to complement the ongoing work that lives in our learning spaces throughout the year through the Indigenous Holistic Education Lifelong Learning Framework. It is a time of sharing and celebration – a time of joy, pride, identity, culture, and community. This month Copperfield School will participate in an Artist in Residency focused on Oral Story Telling and Hoop Dancing under the leadership of Elder Shirley Hill. Student learning will culminate on June 21 with a sharing assembly featuring student work, dancing and we will explore the land around Copperfield as we make note of Summer Solstice. Copperfield School will be looking back on our current Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Commitment to Action to walk forward with a renewed commitment for the 2024-25 school year.
Copperfield Gr 1-5 students will be participating in an Activity Day on June 27, and we need numerous volunteers to support the multiple stations that we have planned. Please complete the Activity Volunteer form that was shared with families on Tuesday May 28 and return to your child’s teacher by Friday June 11, 2024. Kindergarten students will be participating in a special Activity Day event on Tuesday June 25, which includes activities and stations created by our Grade 4 leadership buddies. Kindergarten families can watch for more information via their classroom blogs.
Copperfield School Council is offering a free TELUS Wise digital literacy education program for all Copperfield Families on June 6, 2024, at 6pm. The purpose of this presentation is to help parents/guardians learn how to create a safe online environment for their children by being aware of both the advantages and challenges of the digital world. The workshop is designed for parents and focuses on topics including screen time, gaming, cyberbullying and more. The presentation will be virtual and Copperfield parents can log on using a personal device to participate using the following link: https://meet.google.com/bfj-poun-cms
We are entering the last few weeks of school and there are still many learning opportunities occurring within our classroom spaces. I understand it is a very exciting time as everyone looks forward to summer activities, spring activities are winding down and the evenings are warm and bright. However, it is still important that students maintain consistent routines and healthy habits, in order to be calm, focused, and ready to learn to ensure that we all end the school year successfully.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan

Orders must be placed 6 days in advance and can be placed by creating an account or signing into your existing Healthy Hunger account and adding your student.
