Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. This week we celebrate Support Staff Appreciation Week and Administrative Professionals’ Day. During these days, we recognize the contributions of all employees who work – often behind the scenes – to make our schools thrive and our system run smoothly. There are over 400 job titles at the CBE, from education assistants to facility operators, I.T. experts to recruiting staff and so many more. Within the CBE, there is an incredible diversity of roles that all work together to contribute to the success of our students, schools, and offices.
Support staff at Copperfield include our Admin Assistants, Facility Operator, Lunchroom staff, Library Assistant, and Educational Assistants who all make our school a great place to learn. These staff members ensure our school operates seamlessly and I thought I’d highlight a few of their roles to show how appreciative we are of the work they do every day. Our Facilities team open/close the school, making sure classrooms/hallways are safe and clean each day. Our administrative assistants are always ready to help and welcome families each morning. They check attendance messages, support students, take phone calls, register new students, communicating with families about the school, accounting, the list goes on and on. Our Educational Assistants greet students at the doors and welcome students to school. They work alongside students to support their academics and support them in building their readiness to learn skills. Our lunchroom team support students in the lunchroom daily by providing a welcoming smile, assisting with opening lunch items, sweeping, and tidying tables after each group, and then supervising outside rain/snow or shine. The reason our support staff is so amazing is because they want to support students. Students simply bring us all joy and make Copperfield an amazing place to work. Thank you to our Support Staff for doing such a wonderful job, always.
The Calgary Board of Education and Copperfield School recognizes the importance of advancing mental health and well-being in connection with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week, which runs from May 6-10, 2024. Wednesday May 8th is “Hats On! For Mental Health Day” and all students and staff are encouraged to wear a hat to support and raise awareness on this day. Our goals continue to focus on choosing kindness, and together we are all making Copperfield a great place to learn and to be.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan
The Copperfield Principal vacancy will be posted the first week in May with a successful candidate announced before the end of the school year. The Calgary Board of Education welcomes input from parents, students and staff regarding the programming and leadership attributes you value. Your input will be used in the selection process and shared with the new principal for Copperfield School to inform their entry plan into the school. You can provide input at:
Copperfield School Principal Survey
The online survey will be available until 10:00 PM, May 3, 2024.
Burrowing Owl Fundraiser
As participants in the Conservation Champions Festival with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, the grade 3 students in Mrs. Moravec’s and Mrs. Price’s classes, have chosen to support and educate others on the burrowing owl.
Copperfield School will be collecting donations starting on April 22 through April 26, 2024, to raise money for the “Head Starting Program” that is aimed at caring for and protecting burrowing owlets until they are stronger, and able to be released safely into the wild as adults. Our hope is that we will be able to raise over a thousand dollars towards this program.
For every $2 donation, your child will earn a classroom ballot. After the fundraiser is over, we will draw a ballot and the winning class will get the opportunity to play a game of dodgeball vs. the teachers and staff of Copperfield! The more toonies your class brings in, the more ballots your class gets, and the more ballots your class gets, the better the chances of your class winning the opportunity to play dodgeball against the teachers!
