Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. Thank you to all members of our school council for their on-going dedication and support of our students at Copperfield School. School council occurs every month on the third Wednesday at 6:30pm and is a great way for members of our community to learn about school happenings and events. As well, thank you to all of our families for your participation and volunteer support of the fundraising opportunities, field trips, fun lunches and snack days being offered. Together we are all making Copperfield a great place to learn and to be. Our Gr 3 – 6 students are currently participating in Inline skating and learning alongside instructors from Alien Inline Skating. It is great to see everyone persevering and trying their best to learn new skills. With the gym space in use, all other classes will be participating in outdoor Phys Ed, so students are reminded to dress in layers to be able to participate comfortably while outdoors.
As well, the month of May sees many of our classrooms going on field trips and we appreciate all members of our learning community who support these student opportunities. This is a good time to remind families to please review your MyCBE Account for any outstanding field trip fees, and to ensure that all required student forms are completed and returned.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan
Grade 3 Project Update - Wilder Institute | Burrowing Owl Conservation Project
Thank you to all of you at Copperfield, who helped support the burrowing owl fundraiser. Together, we raised over $1700 that will be donated to the Wilder Institute “Head-Starting Program”.
The winning class that will play dodgeball vs. Copperfield Staff is Ms. Reilly's class. Congratulations!
Once we have had a chance to coordinate a day and a time to play, we will share it with the winning class. Good luck Ms. Reilly's class, the teachers and staff have been practicing!
Dr. Martha Cohen Celebration of Learning and Open House
On May 2 from 6:00 to 7:30 Dr. Martha Cohen will have an open house for new, incoming families. During the evening the school will be open for exploration. All teachers will be present to answer questions about the school and the various programs offerred. Please join us for an opportunity to see Dr. Martha Cohen School.
Hats on! For Mental Health – A Call to be Kind
We all have the capacity to be compassionate, and we know that doing so can make an enormous difference. This year’s Mental Health Week is centered on the healing power of compassion. We emphasize that kindness is equally intrinsic to our humanity. Every year the Canadian Mental Health Association dedicates a week in May to raise the awareness of Mental Health. Join us from May 6 to 12, 2024 to explore how compassion connects us all.
Hats On! for Mental Health Day will take place on May 8. Albertans and Copperfield students are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health. Participating schools will encourage students and teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school and show their capacity to be compassionate.
Principal Vacancy – Input opportunity for families
The Copperfield Principal vacancy will be posted the first week in May with a successful candidate announced before the end of the school year. The Calgary Board of Education welcomes input from parents, students and staff regarding the programming and leadership attributes you value. Your input will be used in the selection process and shared with the new principal for Copperfield School to inform their entry plan into the school. You can provide input at:
Copperfield School Principal Survey
The online survey will be available until 10:00 PM, May 3, 2024.
