Update

We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. We all know the weather changes quickly in Calgary, and students need to be prepared for changing weather. Please ensure your child is dressed in layers to support the outdoor learning and recess opportunities we offer each day.

Precautions for the Solar Eclipse - On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m.  We know that this provides a unique learning experience; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner. During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child if they normally go home for lunch. We will be having an indoor lunch recess break on this day to ensure the safety of all our students and staff. Students will participate in outdoor recess breaks prior to 11:30am and after 2:00pm. If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.  During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.

Morning drop off and after school pick up can be some of the busiest times around our school building. U-Turns and double parking is creating an unsafe situation for your child and for the other drivers. Please choose safety over convenience and take the extra time to find a safe spot to pull over and park. Morning supervision and soft entry begins at 8:05am, and students should not be arriving prior to 8:05am or staying after school without the supervision of a family member.

Please report all late and/or absent students. Send emails to copperfield@cbe.ab.ca  or call our attendance line at 403-817-3512 extension 1 to leave a message. If your child will be away for several days for any reason, emailing or calling the school with dates for an extended absence is required. When a student is away on extended leave of two weeks or more, an Extended Absence Form must be completed by a legal guardian.

Please remember that the City of Calgary bylaws related to dogs do not allow our fury friends:

·         In school grounds,

·         In playgrounds,

·         Or on Sports fields.

For the safety of all concerned, please keep your dog at home or in the car when picking up or dropping off students from school.

Copperfield has heart!

Sincerely,

Mike Magowan

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS!

There are many ways you can contribute to the school's fundraising through everyday initiatives. Check out the list of ongoing initiatives here:

HEALTHY HUNGER- Students have the option to order a treat snack and lunch once per month. The next Fun Lunch is Pizza on May 1, and the next Fun Snack is pretzels on April 17. Orders must be placed 6 days in advance and can be placed by creating an account or signing into your existing Healthy Hunger account and adding your student. Parent volunteers are what make these events so successful, and we would love to have anyone that is interested in volunteering and has their volunteer paperwork and CBE clearance come join us. Volunteer sign up for these events can be done here.

SKIP THE DEPOT- You can donate the proceeds from your empty bottles and cans to our school - NO CONTACT REQUIRED! Simply click the link below to sign up for pickups, set your bottles out the morning of pickup and away they go! All proceeds are given back to the school. COBS - like fresh baked goods?! When shopping at COBS, let them know you are with Copperfield School, and they will donate a portion of your purchase to the school!
