Dear Copperfield Families,

It has been another wonderful week of learning at Copperfield School! Our Kindergarten students had an exciting first field trip to the Seton Library, with their very first ride on a yellow school bus adding to the excitement. Our Grade 2 students also enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the Calgary Zoo.

Looking ahead, Copperfield’s Grade 1–5 students will enjoy a Sports/Activity Day on Friday, June 20. We are still seeking many volunteers to help support the various activity stations organized by our staff. Please note that all volunteers must have current Security Clearance with the CBE. For safety and liability reasons, we kindly ask families to arrange alternative care for siblings who do not attend Copperfield School on this day. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Mr. Parsons, our Physical Education teacher at jrparsons@cbe.ab.ca. Our Kindergarten students will have their own special Sports/Activity Day event on Thursday, June 19, featuring activities led by our Grade 4 leadership buddies.

As we prepare for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year, we want to ensure the best possible learning environment for every student. If you have any specific educational requests or important information regarding your child’s learning needs, strengths, or areas for support, please CLICK HERE to share them with us. We also carefully consider your child’s social interactions and friendships when making classroom placements to support a positive and productive environment. While we welcome your input, please understand that we cannot guarantee placement with a specific teacher. Our priority is to create balanced and effective learning groups that benefit all students.

A reminder to check our Lost and Found—many items remain unclaimed. Please encourage your child to take a look. All unclaimed items will be donated after 12:00 p.m. on June 27.

Lastly, with the warmer weather, please ensure your child comes to school with a hat and a refillable water bottle for outdoor learning times.

Moving

As we continue classroom planning for the 2025/2026 school year, we ask that families who will not be returning to Copperfield school email copperfield@cbe.ab.ca to inform the school. This ensures a smooth transition for not only your own child but their peer groups as well.

Leaving Early for the Summer

Is your family leaving the school early for summer vacation before June 26, or are you coming back after the first day of school, Sept 2? If so, please complete an extended absence form and email to the school at copperfield@cbe.ab.ca. This ensures all students leave the school with their indoor shoes and any school work that has accumulated over the year. Anything not claimed by noon Thursday June 27 will be recycled.

Lost and Found

The lost and found is again overflowing! Ask your student to check to see if they have anything in it! We do try to return items that have names on them, however it is always a good idea to have your child look. All lost and found left unclaimed will be donated noon Thursday June 27.

Library and Home Reading Book Return

Mrs. Clare has a big task of organizing and counting books to prepare for the upcoming year so we appreciate your support in returning all library and home reading books by Friday June 20.

Fees and Waivers

As a reminder, all fees have been posted to your student’s MyCBE account. If you could please check to make sure all outstanding fees have been paid.

No child is ever denied access to an education in The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) because of an inability to pay. If you cannot afford the fees, there are several ways to qualify for a central fee waiver.

Waiver applications for the current school year are found online through your MyCBE account and are available from the start of the school year until June 30.

Yearbooks

We have a limited number of yearbooks available in the office. The cost for the yearbook is $25. Email copperfield@cbe.ab.ca if you would like your student to have a 2024/2025 yearbook.

Busing and Transportation Registration due by June 22

Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-2026 school year. To find out if you are within the busing zone, visit the walk zone/bus zone page and enter your address.

If you are within the bus zone, registration is now available through your MyCBE account

Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.

We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 22 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 22 deadline, it may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025.
