Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. September allows for students to experience new opportunities and become reacquainted with familiar routines. Last week we held our welcome back assembly and Copperfield students established three goals for our school community this year; To bring joy to our experiences, to act with kindness and to build a strong learning community. As we look to extend our learning beyond our immediate community, Copperfield will be learning about Terry Fox and his contributions. During the first week of October the grade 2’s will host a Terry Fox sharing assembly and all students will participate in a Terry Fox run. Copperfield school will recognize and honour our commitment to reconciliation through education in September by furthering our understanding of the history and legacy of residential schools and reflect on important conversations through Indigenous stories at age-appropriate levels. Grade 4’s will be hosting an assembly during the last week of September honouring National Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day. All students will be invited to wear orange on September 28, 2023.
As well this month, Copperfield students will experience our first Fire Drill practice of the year. Please watch for further communication about Copperfield’s Emergency Procedures next week. This month also marks the first opportunity for parent/teacher conferences. This first conference is designed as an opportunity for parents and guardians to highlight information about their child and to meet their child’s teacher to establish learning goals for the year. Copperfield staff are eager to welcome our Copperfield learning community into our building, and we encourage families to visit the classrooms, gym, music room and book fair that will be set up in the Copper Gallery.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan
Principal, Copperfield School
