Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. The Kindergarten Winter Celebration today was a great success, and we look forward to staying cozy and warm in our PJ’s on the last day of school, Friday December 22, before winter break.
Tomorrow, we honour Winter Solstice, which is a celebration of light returning to Turtle Island. It is the shortest day of the year. The Sun begins to shine longer each day, bringing a promise of warmer weather, growth, and new life. Darkness can represent struggle, and light brings hope of easier times. Elder Randy Bottle (Saa’kokoto) teaches us that the Solstice begins a new year. It is a time for reflection, to look back at the past and look forward to the “new sun” of the future; a time to appreciate what transpired over the past year, lessons that have been learned, and to set new intentions. The solstice is a time of significance, celebration, ceremony, and song for some Indigenous cultures.
On behalf of all the staff at Copperfield School, I would like to extend our warmest wishes to all Copperfield families for the upcoming holiday season. We would like to thank you for your continued support, guidance, and encouragement for your children. May your holiday be filled with warmth and cheer, enjoying time together with family and friends. We are looking forward to a fabulous 2024 and the return of all our students on January 8, 2024.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2024/2025 school year begins on January 15, 2024. Registration is done online through School Engage. For information on what documents you need, and what to expect during the registration process for Kindergarten Registration click here. As we are an at capacity school, please look at the lottery information which can be found here
Recorders (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only)
This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5. The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $10.00, payable through your MyCBE account.
1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration
2. Select School based optional fees
3. Add Recorder to cart
4. Pay for fee
All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Friday, January 19, 2024, to ensure your child has a recorder for February.
The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.
Lost and Found
The lost and found is overflowing! Have your student check for lost items. As a reminder, remaining items will be donated to local charities at noon on December 22.
School Council
The next School Council meeting is January 24 at 6:30pm. We would love for you to join. Meetings are full of useful information about the school, upcoming events, budget, and spending. Meetings will be in person, at the school, and all are welcome to attend. Babysitting will not be provided.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS!
There are many ways you can contribute to the school's fundraising through everyday initiatives. Check out the list of ongoing initiatives here:
HEALTHY HUNGER-
Students have the option to order a treat snack and lunch once per month. The next Fun Lunch is Opa on January 10, and the next Snack Day is Cobs on January 24. Orders must be placed 6 days in advance and can be placed by creating an account or signing into your existing Healthy Hunger account and adding your student. Parent volunteers are what make these events so successful, and we would love to have anyone that is interested in volunteering and has their volunteer paperwork and CBE clearance come join us.
