Update
We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. We are busy preparing for the Copperfield Winter Celebration on Wednesday December 13 and Thursday December 14, 2023. Please refer to the Winter Celebration Update that has been shared via school messenger and posted on our website for specific performance times.
Over the course of the next few weeks, Copperfield students will have the opportunity to participate in some activities that will continue our work around kindness and school spirit.
The Mustard Seed Drive – Copperfield school will be supporting The Mustard Seed this December; whose vision is to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty in Calgary. Students have been exploring the question, “Can one person make a difference?” Students think each and every one of us at Copperfield can make a difference. Whether it be by helping with donations for The Mustard Seed or by thinking about ways to help others. A smile or extending a simple “Hello” to someone having a challenging day can make a huge difference.
All families of Copperfield are welcome to donate to this important community project between December 1-15, by sending in individual items from the list below. Urgently needed items include:
- Blankets, shampoo, body wash, lotion, deodorant, razors
- Hygiene Items
- conditioner (travel size), toothpaste (travel size), tissues (travel size), lip balm, hairbrushes, sleep masks, ear plugs, nail clippers, foot powder
Clothing
- toques, gloves, men’s small size clothing (jogging pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks)
Other Items
- Backpacks, large Xmas Stockings
December 15 - Care Cards YYC
We have learned about the importance of making a simple connection between people. We know how much a smile or “hello” can brighten someone’s day. Copperfield students will be creating written messages and pictures in winter cards during a school wide activity in hopes that our words will bring joy to others. These cards will then be shared with seniors in care homes throughout our city.
December 22 - Pajama Day
Students are invited to wear their favourite set of PJs to school on the last Friday before winter break. Get cozy and have some fun showing your Copperfield School Spirit. Students will still be going outside for recess on this day, so please ensure they have snow pants to wear.
Copperfield has heart!
Sincerely,
Mike Magowan
Principal, Copperfield School
Recorders (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only)
This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5. The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $10.00, payable through your MyCBE account.
- 1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration
- 2. Select School based optional fees
- 3. Add Recorder to cart
- 4. Pay for fee
All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Friday, January 19, 2024, to ensure your child has a recorder for February.
The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.
Lost and Found
The lost and found is overflowing! Have your student check for lost items. Lost and found will be on display at all Winter Concerts as well. As a reminder, remaining items will be donated to local charities at noon on December 22.

The next School Council meeting is January 24 at 6:30pm. We would love for you to join. Meetings are full of useful information about the school, upcoming events, budget, and spending. Meetings will be in person, at the school, and all are welcome to attend. Babysitting will not be provided.

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS!
There are many ways you can contribute to the school's fundraising through everyday initiatives. Check out the list of ongoing initiatives here:
HEALTHY HUNGER-
Students have the option to order a treat snack and lunch once per month. The next Fun Lunch is Opa on January 10, and the next Snack Day is Cobs on January 24. There will be no snack day in December. Orders must be placed 6 days in advance and can be placed by creating an account or signing into your existing Healthy Hunger account and adding your student. Parent volunteers are what make these events so successful, and we would love to have anyone that is interested in volunteering and has their volunteer paperwork and CBE clearance come join us.
