Update

We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. As people continue to embrace their culture, identities, and true selves in more open and direct ways, the need to “lift Each other Up” and have greater acceptance, respect, and inclusion for everyone is so important. The importance of acting with kindness and generosity is vital to ensuring a strong, healthy, and vibrant community. Copperfield school will continue our learning around kindness throughout the month of February by participating in activities focused on kindness such as Pink Shirt Day, Winter Walk Day, the Global Bird Count and other activities within our school that promote random acts of kindness and further student learning around the importance of how to be kind, and to be kind within our learning spaces and community.

Copperfield has heart!

Sincerely,

Mike Magowan

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day is February 28, 2024.  Schools from across Canada will wear pink to support bullying prevention awareness, education, and programs. This year’s Pink Shirt Day is centred around making an effort to “Lift Each Other Up.”  Today our diversity is becoming more visible than ever as people continue to embrace their culture, identities, and true selves in more open and direct ways. The need to “lift Each other Up” and have greater acceptance, respect, and inclusion for everyone is so important. We encourage all students to wear pink on this day to show their support. For more information, please visit the Pink Shirt Day website.

Driving Conditions and Road Safety Reminders

Drivers are reminded to please obey all parking signs and bylaws near the crosswalk to ensure the safety and visibility of our students as they cross. As well, we ask drivers to please avoid making U-Turns in front of the school, backing into our neighbours’ driveways and from sending your student directly across the street from your car. Drivers are not to park within 5 metres of a marked crosswalk and are reminded to approach crosswalks slowly and with caution.

Students are reminded to use the crosswalk for crossing the street. Even when pedestrians have the right of way, they must still ensure the crosswalk is safe before crossing. Pedestrians are encouraged to use Point, Pause, Proceed to signal to drivers they intend to cross. Please choose safety over convenience.

Registration 2024/2025

If you have a child who will turn 5 by December 31, 2024, Kindergarten Registration for the 2024/2025 school year has begun. As we are an at-capacity school, registrations must be completed on School Engage by February 13 at NOON to be included in the lottery. Registrations completed after that point will be automatically added to our callback list.

Current Kindergarten to Grade 5 students will automatically be enrolled in the next grade level. If your student has moved out of area, we are not able to accommodate your child for the next school year, please contact the school at copperfield@cbe.ab.ca and we will assist you in next steps.

Puddle Season – Request for size 6-8 Pants

If you have any pants that are size 6-8 and are willing to donate to the office for emergencies, please send them to the office with your child. Currently, we are not looking for any other clothing. Thank you for your consideration.

Recorders (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only) - ORDER BY TONIGHT January 31- FINAL DAY

This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5.  The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $10.00, payable through your MyCBE account.

1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration

2. Select School based optional fees

3. Add Recorder to cart

4. Pay for fee

All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Wednesday January 31. 2024, to ensure your child has a recorder for February.

The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.
