 Update

We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. Parents/Guardians of students in all grades at Copperfield School will have access to view student report cards starting Tuesday, January 30 through their MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning. Teachers may also share learning progress through parent/teacher conferences, your child’s daily work and assignments, and other ongoing communication with you.

Specific to kindergarten, Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents / legal guardians via January and June report cards. In January, progress in English Language Arts and Literature and Math will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card. Other subject areas will be visible online but will be blank (these subjects will not appear on PDF versions). In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents / legal guardians via the report card.

On-Going Student Assessment

In addition to report cards, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways. Assessment happens every day, in every classroom, throughout the school year. Assessing a student’s progress is one of the most important ways we support the continued learning of our students. The CBE has developed some resources related to assessment and report cards to help families learn more about their child's learning.

Curriculum Information for Parents

We recognize that parents play an important role in shaping the way their children view learning. The Alberta Government’s My Child’s Learning Resource page provides an overview of the curriculum for Grade K to High School. This resource will provide you with an understanding of Alberta’s curriculum and related information for your child. Specific curriculum areas and outcomes that are reflected on the report card can be explored in detail. This will also help you discover what your child is learning, how they are being assessed, and what resources are available to help students be successful from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

CBE began implementing the new Alberta Education Curriculum in the Fall of 2022 and 2023. In the new curriculum, some things students learn may be new or may have previously been taught in higher grades. Students could be missing foundational pieces from previous grades, and their report card indicators might not be as high as before. This is expected when there is a new curriculum. It might take more than one school year to build these foundational skills. Even though each grade has its own curriculum, many ideas come up again each year, helping students to build on what they already know and do well.

For instructions on how to view student report cards on-line please visit Accessing the On-line Report Card.  If you require support to view the report card please contact the main office, and if you have questions regarding the report card, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Copperfield has heart!

Mike Magowan

Recorders (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only) -  ORDER BY JANUARY 31

This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5.  The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $10.00, payable through your MyCBE account.

1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration

2. Select School based optional fees

3. Add Recorder to cart

4. Pay for fee

All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Wednesday January 31. 2024, to ensure your child has a recorder for February.

The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.
