Update

We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield School. It was great to welcome families into Copperfield school for the November Conference last week. We are extremely proud of our Copperfield students and the learning progress that has occurred over the first 3 months. Families are integral part of the learning process and we encourage you to continue to check classroom Blogs daily and to connect with your childs’ teacher if you have questions. If your family was unable to attend conferences and you still wish to set up a meeting, please email your teacher to make an alternate arrangement.

We are looking forward to all the excitement and energy December generates. Planning for the Copperfield Winter Celebration is well under way, and we ask that families please read the Winter Celebration Update that has been shared and posted on our website. It contains important details that families need to know.  Many opportunities exist for students to celebrate, honour and learn more about the cultural significant celebrations that occur during December including Las Posadas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas and Kwanzaa. As members of Copperfield school, our goal is to always grow as learners.

Winter weather will eventually be in our forecast, and we remind students to dress appropriately. Students will be outdoors for recess and lunch recess times unless the temperature including wind chill exceeds -20C. We still have many items in the lost and found, and students are encouraged to look for personal items. As a reminder all lost and found that is remaining on December 22 at noon will be donated.

Copperfield has heart!

Sincerely,

Mike Magowan

Mustard Seed Donations – Copperfield Community Project

Students in grade 5 have been learning about The Mustard Seed, whose vision is to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty in Calgary. Students have been exploring the question, “Can one person make a difference?” Students think each and every one of us at Copperfield can make a difference. Whether it be by helping with donations for The Mustard Seed or by thinking about ways to help others. A smile or extending a simple “Hello” to someone having a challenging day can make a huge difference.

All families of Copperfield are welcome to donate to this important community project by sending in individual items.

Urgently needed items include the items below:

  • Blankets, shampoo, body wash, lotion, deodorant, razors
  • Hygiene Items conditioner (travel size), toothpaste (travel size), tissues (travel size), lip balm, hairbrushes, sleep masks, ear plugs, nail clippers, foot powder
  • Clothing toques, gloves, men’s small size clothing (jogging pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks)

Other Items:

Backpacks, large Xmas Stockings (we will use these to stuff ind. donations)

If you are able to, we ask you to bring in your donations by December 15, to allow for the grade 5 students to organize and send in the donations. Donation bins will be at the front of the school.

Thank you for supporting our Community Project!
