Update

We look forward to another great week of learning at Copperfield school.  All staff are very excited to welcome families into our school for parent/teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday of this week.  September conferences are an important component of our reporting process to parents.  This first conference is designed as an opportunity for parents/guardians to highlight information about their child and to meet their child’s teacher.  Prior to conferences, families are encouraged to think about your child’s academic areas of strength, areas for growth, effective learning strategies and goals for the year to share during the conference.  We look forward to connecting with all families this week.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across Canada.  Copperfield staff and students will engage in learning opportunities throughout the week of September 25 to September 29 to honour Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day.  Learning within classrooms and through assemblies will focus on honouring and establishing awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters.” Grade 4’s will be hosting an assembly on Thursday September 28 at 2:00pm honouring Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day.  All students will be invited to wear orange on September 28, 2023.

Students go outside for lunch recess, at natural break and throughout the day for learning opportunities with their classroom. With the fall weather upon us, this is a good time to remind all students to dress in layers, and to check the lost and found for personal outdoor clothing items during school conferences.

Copperfield has heart!

Sincerely,

Mike Magowan

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Week

At Copperfield School, we will recognize Truth and Reconciliation Week from Sept 25 to Sept 30, 2023. This week will honour National Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. On Thursday September 28, all members of Copperfield school community are encouraged to wear an Orange shirt. The intention of this week is to recognize and honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities. Students will learn about the history and legacy of residential school by reflecting on important conversations and through Indigenous stories at age-appropriate levels.
