Dear Copperfield Families,
The staff at Copperfield School are very excited to begin the 2026-2027 school year. We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer! Our first day of class for Grade 1 to 5 students is Monday, August 31. Kindergarten students will participate in a staggered entry process and will attend during their designated times listed below. The school office will open on Wednesday, August 26, 9:00am – 3:00pm, if you require assistance or have further questions. If you haven't advised us that your child is not returning to Copperfield School for 2026 - 2027, please contact us immediately at copperfield@cbe.ab.ca.
Your child's teacher will contact you by email at 1:00pm on Friday, August 28. At this time, teachers will share more specific information about first day procedures, designate a meeting spot, classroom contact information and key reminders.
Further information can be found on the Copperfield School Website. We are a school that follows the traditional calendar. To view our school’s calendar, please visit the Calendar page. The CBE system calendars, please can be found here.
We look forward to welcoming our students back to school and resuming our time together as a positive and caring learning community.
Sincerely,

Entry/Exit Procedures
Student Arrival Plan for the 2025/2026 School Year:
- Families can drop off their student at their designated entry door by 7:47am. There will be outdoor daily supervision at this time. The bell will ring at 7:55am for students to enter the school.
- Students will be greeted at the door by a staff member.
- At 8:00am, teachers will begin taking attendance and proceed with morning instruction in their classrooms.
- Students arriving after the 8:00am bell, are to enter the main front doors and check in at the office before proceeding to their classroom space.
- Families are asked to adhere to all parking signs, and may use the street parking along Copperstone Road and Copperfield Blvd. Please ensure that you are not parking in the bus zone, as this space is reserved for CBE transportation, and that all road rules are followed.
- Our Hug and Go Drop Off Zone was very well received last year and we will continue with it again. It is behind the Bus Drop Off. The purpose of the Drop Off zone is to pull up, the student exits the car on the side of the sidewalk and the driver departs from the lane. Please do not leave your car unattended. Staff supervise this area to ensure students go to their proper door.
- Families are asked to not use the school parking lot as a drop off location, as this creates an unsafe situation for students as they enter our school grounds.
Student Dismissal Plan for the 2026/2027 School Year:
- Students exit the building through their designated doors at 2:30pm.
- Families may wish to create a designated meeting location away from the exit doors to ensure safe and familiar pick-up spaces.
- Families are asked to adhere to all parking signs, and may use the street parking along Copperstone Road and Copperfield Blvd. Please ensure that you are not parking in the bus zone, as this space is reserved for CBE transportation.
- Families are asked to not use the school parking lot as a pick-up location, as this creates an unsafe situation for students as they leave our school grounds.
Lunch Supervision Registration
Registration for lunch supervision is open and can be found in your MyCBE account. All students in Grades 1- 5 staying at school during the daily lunch break must be registered and pay an annual fee. Lunch Supervision fees will be charged to your My CBE account in October. Fees can be paid in installments or all at once through your MyCBE account. More information on Fees and the waiver process can be found in the Fees section of the Copperfield School website.
Lunch Supervision
Copperfield School offers a four-day (Monday – Thursday) Lunch Supervision program for students in Grades 1 - 5. Students bring their own lunches and are supervised both while they eat lunch and while they play outside. No microwave or hot water services are available. Online registration and fee payment for this program is required. Lunch Supervision begins on the first day of school.
Registrations are submitted online using MyCBE Account. The CBE has a waiver process and Waiver applications for the 2026-27 school year can be made by clicking on the link.
Lunchroom Hours
Copperfield School hosts four staggered lunch periods to accommodate the number of students requiring noon supervision. By staggering the lunch times, we can accommodate all students in the common eating space, establish smaller supervision ratios and provided greater access to equipment and play areas. All students will have a 36-minute lunch break, 18 minutes to eat and 18 minutes to play outdoors. Please see below the scheduled lunchroom times.

Allergy Awareness - We are a Nut Aware School
Copperfield School strives to be a Nut Aware school as we do have many students with severe allergies to nuts such as peanuts and other types of nuts in the building. Please do not send any food products that may contain nuts (e.g. peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches, cookies, etc.). Please check and read all package ingredients before sending something with your child to school. Should a student bring a lunch containing nuts, they will be asked to eat in the office to ensure the area can be properly cleaned to ensure the safety of all students. We appreciate your support of our student safety when packing lunch.
Meet the Teacher
Please save the date for our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 10. Food trucks will be on-site beginning at 5:00 p.m.—feel free to bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic on the playground before the evening's activities. Families are welcome to drop by the homeroom classrooms, Music Room and Gym to meet the teacher and connect. We’re excited to kick off the year with connection, community, and a strong start together!
School Supplies
Individual school supplies will be provided as part of the Student Supply Fee charged to all students in October, and the supply fee is paid within your MyCBE account. In addition to the school supplies provided, it is recommended that all students have a backpack large enough to hold a picture book. A reusable water bottle that can be taken home daily for washing. A daily healthy snack for the morning or afternoon. Students who will be staying for lunch will need a lunch kit for their lunch and are asked to limit their lunch waste by using reusable containers. Indoor running shoes are brought to school the first day and left at school until the end of the year. Many backpacks and shoes look alike; please completely label all student items.
School Parking Lot
Please note that the parking lot is not available for visitor/volunteer/parent parking. For safety reasons, DO NOT use the parking lot to drop-off or pick-up children. We ask that you refrain from parking in the parking lot. The parking lot is only accessible to CBE employees, and they arrive at various times throughout the day.
Transportation
Currently our school will have one bus based on the registrations we received by the deadline. Registered students only will find their assigned stop within their PowerSchool account. Families who register after the deadline of June 14, 2026 may need to wait up to 6 weeks for their late registrations to be processed. Please go to your MyCBE account for registration – if you do not have a form for mandated transportation, it means that they are not eligible. Students within the walk zone are not eligible for transportation; the walk zone can be viewed by using the Find a School Tool on the CBE website.
Volunteering
We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Registration for volunteering in the classroom/field trips must be done at the school office, please bring two pieces of Government I.D. (1 must be picture ID). Classroom teachers will contact families when volunteers are required and look for volunteer opportunities from school council to support all students. Visit the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check.
